Emma Turner The Undying Feud - Israel and Palestine

Protest in London

Since the establishment of Israel in 1917 there has been an ongoing war between the Israelis and the Palestinians. The feud is between the Jews and the Arabs as their goals are very similar for their people. For over a hundred years both have been fighting for their land, their rights and their lives but recently, these basic human rights have been challenged even further. The Israelis have been very violent towards the Palestinian population as an effort to regain their land but in retaliation the Palestinians have acted the same way. In order to gain what both sides believe is rightfully theirs, they fight brutally to regain it but the issue is that too many cultures and religions have a claim over the same area of land that dates back thousands of years.
Today, these countries have reached out to other countries such as the United States for aid. Since the 1950's the United States have spent over 233 billion dollars to aid Israel. Today, there are bombings and killings and suicide missions as many each side is trying to conquer the others land. For children, the most negative affect is growing up in a war zone, for families it's the constant moves to find a home where they won't be in as much danger. For both sides their actions have caused their people tremendous pain and suffering. People die daily, children are brought into the war as help and families are ripped apart by war.
This feud affects the Jews and the Arabs everywhere as they all want what was promised by their god. It has become a global issue because of the ways they go about handling it. Many families become refugees and since the beginning of the this war many people have died. This really impacts the situation because both sides, in anger, retaliate. As for environmental, both sides are experiencing water shortage and severe pollution, also the disposal of solid waste and soiled water is very insanitary and improper.
The Zionists, is a group of Jews that formed in the late nineteenth century (1878), who felt their treatment from other Europeans nationalities was unfair and were constantly being excluded from society decided that in order to stand up for themselves they needed to become an independent state. They fight against the Islam extremists who are people who have an extremely conservative view towards their Islamic beliefs. For both the Israelis and the Palestinians, neither will stop until their very similar wants are met. As the population of both religions are so large (23 percent of the world is Muslim), it seems very unlikely this issue will be resolved by any outside source such as Barrack Obama and the United States or any help from surrounding countries.
The ‘One-State solution’ would be that both the Jews and the Arabs share the land in peace and unity and keep their land, the ‘Two-State solution’ in which the land is split for both the Israelis and the Palestinians. Both options make both unhappy so the solution seems to be very far in the future for this issue.

  2. Paris - That's some pretty heavy stuff going on there. One thing that REALLY caught my eye was how the US has spent so much money on trying to aid Israel. Do you really think that the US should be taking sides? I mean it seems that they are supplying only one side with weapons and the other's none. This entire conflict would be in a completely different situation if the US decided "HEY! You know who I want to support? The Arabs!" but of course there is a huge history between the US and Israel like when they tried to instil a government and whatnot. But with that aside, pretty fucked up if you think about it. One world power fuels a war between two countries and then they go, "War is bad mkay?"

    1. I think this issue can only be resolved by the two parties. I think the United States needs to take a step back and stop providing for Israel and start letting countries take care of their own problems. You're right, I don't feel they should choose a side or preference.
